Candles
What is soy wax?
Soy wax is derived from hydrogenated soybean oil, extracted from natural sources.
Characteristics:
- Slower Burn: Soy wax burns at a slower rate compared to paraffin wax.
- Texture: It is softer and less transparent.
- Advantages:
- Long-Lasting: Due to its gradual burn, soy wax produces long-lasting candles.
- Renewable: Made from fast-growing crops, soy wax is an environmentally friendly choice.
- Non-Toxic: When burned, it does not emit harmful chemicals.
- Pleasant Odor: Soy wax has a more pleasant aroma.
- Gradual Scent Release: The scent is released gradually due to its slow burn characteristic.
How do I prevent tunneling in my candles?
The melted wax of a burning candle is called the "melt pool". Creating a proper melt pool is essential for optimal candle performance.
During the first burn, allow your candle to burn long enough for the entire surface to liquefy. This means letting the melt pool reach the sides of the container. Because it sets the stage for future burns. If you skip this step, your candle might tunnel (burn straight down) without melting the wax on the sides. Tunneling can lead to wasted wax and an uneven burn.
Small soy candle containers (around 1"-2" in diameter) typically take 1-2 hours to form a full melted pool. Medium to large soy candle containers (around 3"-4" in diameter) need a bit more time—usually 3-4 hours.
What is hot throw?
Definition: Hot throw refers to the strength and intensity of the fragrance released by a candle while it is burning.
Process: As the candle burns and its wax liquefies, a warm pool forms, dispersing the fragrance into the surrounding space.
Significance: Hot throw determines how well a candle fills a room with its delightful scent.
What is cold throw?
Definition: Cold throw refers to the scent released when a candle is unlit.
Experience: It’s the fragrance you encounter when you open the candle jar or packaging before actually lighting the candle.
Significance: Cold throw gives you a preview of the candle’s aroma even before it’s ignited.
Why I I have rough tops after burning?
A rough or bumpy surface on a soy wax candle is normal and expected. It does not impact the candle’s quality or burn performance. This occurs when the hot wax in the melt pool cools and solidifies unevenly. This feature is particularly common in candles made with all-natural soy wax.
Why my wick is curled down into the wax?
We use Eco wicks for our candles. Eco wicks are constructed from natural flat cotton threads interwoven with paper threads The specially treated paper threads provide a controlled curling of the wick making the ECO series self-trimming, which results in minimized mushrooming, soot and smoke.
Recommendation: Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before each burn or every four hours of burn time to ensure an even burn and prevent long wicks from curling into the wax.
